The Committee to Protect Journalists has called on Pakistani authorities to "immediately investigate" the murder of journalist Rehmatullah Abid.
A reporter for the Urdu-language Dunya News TV channel, Abid was shot to death in Panjgur District, about 600 kilometers from Quetta, the provincial capital of Balochistan.
Bob Dietz, CPJ's Asia program coordinator, said unpunished attacks on journalists in Balochistan "are effectively silencing news coverage and depriving the public of important information about the conflict" in the vast region.
Reports said police were investigating the case but had made no arrests.
No group has claimed responsibility for the shooting.
Pakistan is considered one of the most dangerous countries for journalists in the world. At least 18 journalists have been killed in Balochistan in the past decade.
