More than a dozen traffic police in Russia's North Caucasus region of Daghestan have been sacked after using their weapons for celebratory gunfire at the New Year.
Daghestan traffic police spokesman Isamagomed Sultanov has confirmed that 15 police in Daghestan's capital, Makhachkala, were sacked for using their service weapons to "salute" the New Year during the first minutes of 2015.
Sultanov said authorities currently are considering whether three commandeers of the traffic police forces also should be sacked.
The LifeNews online video news website quoted Daghestani officials on January 13 as saying that 18 traffic police in Makhachkala had been sacked in connection with the incident.
LifeNews posted a video online showing the police officers shooting their weapons in air to greet the New Year.
