Turkish FM Starts First Official Trip To Uzbekistan In 13 Years

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has begun a three-day official visit to Uzbekistan, the first at the foreign minister level in 13 years.

In a statement issued before leaving Ankara for Tashkent, Davutoglu said there had been a halt in Turkish-Uzbek relations since 2006 due to "misunderstandings" but that now the countries are trying to renew diplomatic contacts to salvage relations.

On the first day of his visit on July 10, Davutoglu and his Uzbek counterpart, Abdulaziz Kamilov, discussed bilateral ties and regional and international security issues.

Davutoglu is expected to hold talks with Uzbek President Islam Karimov during his visit.
