Three women have been detained in Kyrgyzstan on suspected involvement in the stabbing of the father-in-law of the jailed former chief of Kazakhstan’s national nuclear company, KazAtomProm.
Raikan Alkanov, 79, was stabbed 18 times by unknown assailants at his home in his native city of Talas in northern Kyrgyzstan last weekend. He is currently being treated in a Bishkek hospital.
Alkanov's lawyer, Yury Skatnevsky, told reporters on October 30 that the detained suspects are relatives of a 16-year-old local girl, who once worked as a babysitter at Alkanov's house.
Skatnevsky says that 200 thousands soms ($3,600) were stolen from Alkanov's house on the day of the attack.
Alkanov's son-in-law Mukhtar Dzhakishev is a tycoon and former KazAtomProm president who was arrested in 2009.
Dzhakishev is serving a 14-year prison sentence after being convicted of corruption.
His supporters say the charge was politically motivated.
