Eighty-Nine Confirmed Dead After Tornado In U.S.

At least 90 people were reported killed by tornadoes in parts of the central United States on May 22.

Officials today said 89 people have been confirmed dead in the town of Joplin, Missouri.

Buildings in about a third of the town of 50,000 were damaged.

At least one death was reported due to a tornado in the city of Minneapolis in Minnesota.

The twister strikes on May 22 occurred less than one month after more than 330 people were killed by tornadoes that struck in seven U.S. states.
