Estonians Suspected Of Spying For Russia

TEXT SIZE - +
Police in Estonia have detained a longtime security official and his wife on suspicion of spying for Russia.

Prosecutors said Aleksei Dressen, who works for Estonia's security police, and his wife, Viktoria Dressen, were arrested at Tallinn airport as she was boarding a flight to Moscow on February 22.

A spokeswoman for the prosecution, Kadri Tammai, said Aleksei Dressen went to the airport to give his wife a folder that contained classified information.

Viktoria Dressen allegedly worked as a courier, forwarding information to Russia's main security agency, the Federal Security Service (FSB).

Estonia, which regained its independence in 1991 after 50 years of rule by Moscow, has chilly relations Russia and spying incidents are not rare.

"Police in Estonia have detained a longtime security official and his wife on suspicion of spying for Russia". I mean, obviously - these guys have gotten a pretty good sense of the direction in which the wind is blowing on the international arena today. Then imagine anyone spying for the gringos - the latter would not even have cash to pay their spies, they would have to ask the Chinese for another loan to do so :-)).

In other news from Europe: there is an interesting article in Le Monde today, saying that all the major actor of the intl political arena - Russia, China, even the bankrupt US - are rearming at high speed. The only ones who are forced to cut their military expenditure (to save some money, obviously) are the Europeans. I mean, this trend really opens an interesting strategic perspective in the medium run: on the one hand, economically decadent, financially bankrupt and militarily weak Europe; on the other hand, economically buoyant, financially healthy and militarily rearmed Russia - et que le meilleur gagne :-)!
