Kyiv: Ukrainian Journalist Killed In Eastern Shelling

The Ukrainian military said a journalist was killed and three soldiers had been wounded in the past 24 hours in the eastern part of the country.

Military spokesman Andriy Lysenko said in Kyiv on February 28 that a male journalist had been killed in or near the town of Pesky.

He said the unnamed man died from his wounds while at a military hospital.

Pesky is a government-held town on the front line, northwest of Donetsk.

Lysenko said there had not been any shelling reported near Luhansk or the southern port city of Mariupol.

Meanwhile, pro-Russian separatists said on February 28 that their pullback of heavy weapons was continuing.

Self-declared rebel military representative Eduard Basurin said the separatists would be done pulling back all heavy weapons as required by the Minsk cease-fire agreement in the next few days.

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) has not confirmed the rebels' pullback claims.

Based on reporting by Reuters, TASS, and AFP

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
