MINSK -- Exiled former Belarusian crime investigator Andrey Pyzhyk, a critic of President Alyaksandr Lukashenka's regime, has been detained in Poland and could be extradited to Belarus.

Pyzhyk's wife, Yulia, said police told her the detention on June 5 was linked to a Belarusian request for Pyzhyk's extradition.

She added that her husband has suggested that the extradition request might be connected to his participation in a documentary about last year's Minsk subway bombing produced by BelSat-TV.

In the documentary, Pyzhyk spoke of his doubts about the investigation of the April 2011 bombing that killed 15 people.

Rights groups have raised questions about the fairness of the trial, the apparent lack of motive, and the quick executions this year of two young men convicted of carrying out the blast.

Pyzhyk has been living in Poland since 2007.
