Dozens Of Fuel Trucks Set Alight Outside Kabul

Afghan officials say militants have set fire to dozens of fuel trucks in an attack overnight on the outskirts of Kabul.

Gul Aghan Hashimi, the crime investigation director of Kabul police, said July 5 that "a magnetic bomb caused the fuel tankers to catch on fire."

The fire triggered by the bomb set ablaze tankers waiting to enter the city in a parking lot west of the Afghan capital. Early reports put the number of trucks ablaze at 400.

Hashmat Stanikzai, a Kabul police spokesman, said no casualties were reported as fire fighters tried to control the fire.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement by spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.

It is not clear if the trucks, which belonged to a private company, were supplying fuel to NATO forces.
