The governor of Russia's flood-stricken Krasnodar region says federal and local authorities have earmarked 9 billion rubles ($275 million) to rebuild the devastated city of Krymsk.
Speaking on July 15, Aleksandr Tkachev pledged to restore the city's social services and infrastructure, and said a new district with a school and hospital would be built from scratch.
Tkachev's announcement came as local emergency officials said water and power supplies had been fully restored in Krymsk and other cities hit by last week's flash floods, which left 172 people dead and sparked massive anger at officials' failure to issue an evacuation order and disorganized rescue efforts.
