Georgia's opposition is accusing the government of attacking freedom of speech following police raids that have led to the seizure of some 300,000 satellite television dishes across the country.

The satellite dishes were impounded during raids in Tbilisi and elsewhere as part of what authorities describe as an investigation into suspected vote-buying by billionaire tycoon Bidzina Ivanishvili's "Georgian Dream" coalition.

Ivanishvili was fined more than $90 million earlier this month for alleged political funding violations, including distributing satellite dishes for free.

The penalty was later cut to $45 million.

The opposition coalition accuses the authorities of trying to prevent people from watching Ivanishvili's opposition Kanal 9 television channel as the businessman campaigns to oust President Mikheil Saakashvili's governing party in parliamentary elections scheduled for October.

wow, I recall the only other regime on the planet seizing satellite dishes was Taliban. But then again, both Taliban and rump republic of Saakashvilli are US government's creature. Neitherless to say, rump republic of Georgia's police is paid for entirely by US government, as are prison guards and Saakashvilli's clan

I'm not sure if you are just very naive or plain stupid. It's not the people who are informed (unlike you) that like saakahvili. It's the people outside of Tbilisi that are brainwashed by government. Anybody who has some info knows what's going on. But you are retarded if you think that he get's money from the US if he did there would be no 8 billion dollar debt and he wouldn't have to take money from businesses that are not related to his clan. You are very ignorant in general and have a bigoted hate towards the US cause your precious soviet union did not survive...

Saakashvillis clan is bankrolled by US government, which pays for everything Saakashvilli does, including his "police" and prison guards. US turned rump "republic of Georgia" into criminal entity (just like Kosovo) which harbors Wahhabi Sunni terrorists and oppresses its own remaining "citizens". Now I see even retarded "republic of Georgians" living abroad begining to wake up to the reality of rump dictatorship

General Secretary of NATO said rump republic of Georgia is the model NATO minion. Grateful Saakashvilli thanked NATO for support and sent some of his serfs to die for US government in Afghanistan.
