Athens Presents Latest Draft Reform Package To Parliament

The Greek government on July 21 presented parliament with more draft legislation on reforms, saying it wants a final deal on its international bailout by August 20.

Lawmakers are due to vote on a second batch of reforms on July 22 in another test of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' authority, after a rebellion by his Syriza party during a vote on a first package of bailout measures last week.

The second bill must be passed if Greece is to receive the bailout worth up to 86 billion euros ($93 billion) during the next three years.

Government spokeswoman Olga Gerovassili said passage of the second bill will allow the immediate resumption of negotiations with creditor institutions -- the European Union, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund.

August 20 is the deadline for debt-crippled Greece to pay 3.2 billion euros owed to the European Central Bank, ahead of a payment of 1.5 billion euros owed to the International Monetary Fund in September.
