Grocery Store Attacked In Daghestan

Unknown attackers opened fire at a grocery store late on September 17 in the town of Babayurt in Russia's restive North Caucasus republic of Daghestan.

The attackers also left a home-made bomb at the entrance of the store.

Local officials say the bomb was defused and nobody was injured.

Last month, assailants placed mines at a liquor store and threw a grenade at a restaurant in Ingushetia, another North Caucasus republic.

No casualties were reported. Islamic insurgents in the region regularly attack liquor stores and other public places selling alcoholic beverages.

Based on reporting by RIA Novosti and Interfax

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
