Transportation prices in Uzbekistan's capital, Tashkent, increased by 20 percent as of June 15.
A one-way ticket by bus, tram, trolleybus, or metro jumped from 800 soms ($0.34) to 1,000 soms ($0.42) in one day.
The change took Tashkent residents by surprise, as no preliminary announcements were made.
The Tashkent City Transportation Service blamed the sudden hike on increases in the price of gasoline.
The cost of gasoline in Uzbekistan rose by up to 25 percent about three months ago. Its current average price is 2,500 soms ($1.06) per liter.
