A U.S. ice-hockey club has been fined $100,000 after Russian player Slava Voynov appeared at a practice despite being suspended over a domestic assault charge.
Voynov, a defenseman born in Chelyabinsk, was seen with his Los Angeles Kings teammates at a practice on December 2 before a game against the Boston Bruins.
The National Hockey League issued a statement the same day, saying that the club was fined as "such activity is in direct contravention" of the terms of the indefinite suspension imposed on Voynov on October 20.
Voynov, 24, was charged with one count of "corporal injury to spouse with great bodily injury" for an incident at their home outside Los Angeles on October 19.
Voynov, who pleaded not guilty on December 1, faces up to nine years in prison if convicted.
He is in the second year of a six-year, $25 million contract.
