Kerry, Ashton To Meet Zarif In Oman Over Iran Nuclear Crisis

Washington says that U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton will meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Oman on November 9 through 10 to discuss the Iranian nuclear crisis.

The U.S. State Department made the announcement in Washington on October 31.

The meeting in Muscat, Oman will take place two weeks before a November 24 deadline for completing an agreement on Iran's nuclear program.

Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States, plus Germany want Iran to scale down nuclear activities, such as uranium enrichment, so that it cannot produce nuclear weapons.

Tehran, which denies trying to develop nuclear weapons, wants tough UN and Western sanctions to be lifted.
