Britain’s Foreign Office says senior officials from Britain and Iran have agreed to meet in September on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York.
The talks between British Foreign Secretary William Hague and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif were requested by the British government after the election of the new Iranian president, Hassan Rohani, in June.
A date had not been announced.
But the UN General Assembly is meeting from September 17 to October 4 and a high-level UN meeting on nuclear disarmament is scheduled for September 26.
Britain and Iran have indicated they want to restore diplomatic ties that were suspended by London after hard-line demonstrators attacked the British Embassy in Tehran in 2011.
Britain has said the attack appeared to be state-sponsored.
