WASHINGTON -- U.S. Acting Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will brief U.S. lawmakers behind closed doors on December 4 about the nuclear negotiations with Iran, a State Department spokeswoman said on December 2.
Marie Harf said the administration is very engaged with Congress to show that progress has been made in the nuclear talks.
Sherman, who has led the negotiations with Iran for the past months, is expected to make a case against new sanctions.
Harf said Secretary of State John Kerry was in touch with lawmakers during and after last month's talks in Vienna during which world powers and Iran failed to reach a comprehensive deal to the standoff over Tehran's nuclear actvities.
Instead, the United States, France, Germany, Britain, Russia, and Iran announced that nuclear talks will be extended until the end of June.
