Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has offered to extend a three-day visit of United Nations' nuclear experts and expressed optimism that their findings would help ease tensions over Iran's nuclear program.

The three-day visit by experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is due to end on January 31.

It is seen as an opportunity to defuse tensions between Iran and the West that have soared since a November IAEA report strongly suggested that some aspects of Tehran’s nuclear program could only have military applications.

Iran has dismissed the report as biased.
