Iranian Army Starts War Games Near Iraqi Border

The Iranian Army has started ground and air military exercises near Iran's western border with Iraq.

State television said the two-day drills are aimed at maintaining the readiness of the armed forces for countering international military threats.

It showed troops parachuting from helicopters near the towns of Sarpol-e Zahab and Qasr-e Shirin in the western Kermanshah Province.

The Iranian war games are being held amid increasing tensions between Iran and the West over the country's nuclear program. T

The United States and its allies accuse the Islamic republic of seeking nuclear weapons -- a charge Tehran denies.
