Blast At Baghdad Mosque; U.S. Admits Civilians Killed

At least nine people have been killed and many more wounded in two bomb attacks targeting a Shi'ite mosque south of Baghdad.

Officials said a roadside bomb planted near the mosque in Yousifiya went off as worshippers were leaving Friday Prayers on November 20.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives-packed vest after security forces arrived at the scene.

Security forces members were among the dead and wounded.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, but Sunni extremists such as the Islamic State group frequently carry out bombings against Shi’as.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military said on November 20 that an air strike it carried out on March 13 at a checkpoint "likely" killed four civilians.

The military said an investigation into the incident showed that the checkpoint was a legitimate target and the four noncombatants could not be detected until after the bombs were launched.
