IS Militants Attack Turkish-Syria Border Post

Islamic State militants launched a double attack on November 29 against a Kurdish-controlled post on the Syrian-Turkish border, prompting fierce clashes in the nearby town of Kobane.

Kurdish officials in Kobane, as well as a Britain-based monitor, said the two suicide attacks by Islamic State militants were launched on the Mursitpinar border post from Turkish soil.

But Turkish military officials dismissed those claims as “lies.”

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the dawn suicide attacks by IS militants included one by an explosives-packed car that drove at the border post from Turkish territory.

It said the second attack was by a militant on foot who used an explosives-packed suicide belt.

Turkey has long fended off allegations that it has failed to secure its border with Syria, allowing Islamic State militants and others to freely cross back and forth.
