Israel's military says its planes bombed a site in Lebanon in retaliation for rockets fired into Israel from neighboring Lebanon.

A statement said the Israeli Air Force "argeted a terror site located between Beirut and Sidon in response to a barrage of four rockets launched at northern Israel."

The rocket barrage into Israel on August 22 caused damage but no injuries.

The Israeli statement said Israeli pilots "reported direct hits to the target."

Lebanon's Al-Manar Television quoted a spokesman for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command as saying the group's base in Na'ameh was apparently attacked by the Israeli aircraft.

No injuries were reported.

The attack on Israel was earlier claimed by the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, an Al-Qaeda-linked group.

Based on reporting by Reuters and AFP
