A jury in Moscow has convicted five men in the 2006 murder of Russian investigative reporter Anna Politkovskaya.

Politkovskaya was gunned down in 2006 at the entrance to her apartment block in Moscow. She had reported on  human rights abuses in Chechnya.

The jury at the Moscow city court on May 20 found four defendants guilty of organizing the shooting of Politkovskaya, while a fifth defendant was found guilty of carrying out the killing.

The defendants included three Chechen brothers, one of whom was found guilty of killing Politkovskaya, as well as their uncle and a former police officer.

Three of the defendants had been acquitted by another jury in 2009. The verdict was later thrown out by the Supreme Court, which ordered a new trial.

Those who ordered Politkovskaya killing are yet to be identified and convicted.
