Kadyrov Denies Chechen Military Involvement in Ukraine Fighting

Chechen Republic head Ramzan Kadyrov has rejected as “absurd” reports that Chechens are fighting on the side of pro-Russian rebels in the east Ukrainian town of Slovyansk. Two days earlier, an unnamed Ukrainian commander had said on May 5 that Chechens were fighting alongside the insurgents. Acting Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov repeated that allegation in a post on his Facebook page.

Speaking to journalists in Grozny, Kadyrov said categorically that “there are no Chechen battalions in Ukraine.” He added that if there were, those individuals who had alleged Chechen involvement would have fled from Slovyansk in terror long ago.

This was not the first time the Ukrainian military had reported the participation of Chechen forces in the ongoing standoff. Two months ago, the Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff claimed that Chechnya’s infamous Vostok motor-rifle battalion had been deployed to the Crimean town of Djankoy. In fact, the Vostok battalion was disbanded in late 2008 after its commander, Sulim Yamadayev, fell out with Kadyrov and its personnel were subsumed into other Russian military units based permanently in Chechnya.

Another source, too, has cast doubts on Kadyrov’s denial. Earlier this week, Kavkazcenter, the official website of the North Caucasus Islamic insurgency, posted what it said was a letter it had received from a member of one of the Chechen security forces subordinate to Kadyrov who had been sent first to Crimea and then to Slovyansk. The man, whom Kavkazcenter identified as “Musa,” said morale among his unit was poor because they couldn’t understand why they had been sent there and had no grievance against the Ukrainians who, “unlike the Russians, have never done anything bad to us.”

“Musa” added that lacking any motivation, he and his comrades “are simply going through the motions of fighting.” By doing so, he said, they have incurred the wrath of the Russian military officers (to whom they are presumably subordinated) and of Kadyrov himself, who, according to “Musa,” had promised Russian President Vladimir Putin that “the Chechens will be in the vanguard.”

Kadyrov’s denial that any “Chechen battalions” are currently deployed in Ukraine was, moreover, formulated in such a way that it does not preclude the presence on Ukrainian soil of informal military units from Chechnya. Kavkazcenter claimed in mid-March, first, that the Chechen authorities had opened recruiting offices for “volunteers” wishing to fight in Ukraine and then that those offices had been suddenly closed.

Kavkazcenter did not give any estimate of how many young men had been “recruited.” But Kadyrov said this week that “tens of thousands” of volunteers in Chechnya are ready to travel to Ukraine to “defend the peaceful population” against the “criminal actions” of “fascist extremists.”

Meanwhile, Chechnya is poised to profit from the Russian annexation of Crimea. The Chechen airline Grozny-Avia has been designated the main carrier for flights to and from Simferopol.

chechen involvement in ukraine wouldnt make nay sense whatsoever. the reputation of chechnya would suffer because of it.
moreover, as some chechens put it, ukrainians didn't commit any crimes against chechens.
still, rferl, if there is some proof of chechen forces fighting in ukraine, just publish it.
rumours are rumours, allegations are allegations, so far.

True Chechens would fight against Russians, not with them! My home in Grozny was destroyed by the Russian conscript fools and I will never forget!

.
Kadyrov statements probably follow orders of his military
Superiors of "shtaby" of Russia, the real commanders of
Russian Federation.
Not so long ago he pledged to send to Ukraine his special
forces and threatened Ukrainians with vengeance, to fight
for Russian insurgency in Eastern Ukraine.
Now he say that there is no Chechen Battalions in Ukraine,
following Putin's statements about holding the "referendum".
Does he include into Ukraine Crimea, Russia annexed?
Does he mean by battalions only full regular battalions with
all insignia?
Well, Chechnia is not an independent country, occupied by
Russian military and Special Forces, badly damaged by
two Chechen wars, healing its wounds nation.
But why they still cleansed from any spirit of freedom,
even in souls of young men that got murdered as "terrorists"
for attempt to leave a town and go to "babushka" to the
countryside, not to turn eyes down before Russian GRU
assassins, walking their streets?
Why Kadyrov allowed kill them?
Is he told by lying Russian GRU telepaths that pure kids
went to "babushkas" with "kramol'nyiy" thoughts?
And what thoughts are considered "kramol'nyiy"?
Like in Eastern Ukraine, be knifed for refusing follow
Russian screaming command "Na Koleni Hohol!"?
Kadyrov is probably himself a professional Stecial Forces
officer of Russia, thus his statements are ordered by his
superiors and shouldn't be seen as expression of Chechen
people as a nation.

2.
Yamadayev gave interview after 2008 invasion in Georgia,
ordered by his commanders to lie that Russia didn’t start
the war.
That, after I criticized it, Russian command decided that
interview was too revealing and pinned it on Yamadayev,
killed him, or just lie, to put him and his battalion even
more undercover.
The was at least two such secret battalions, "Vostok", made
of children of WW2 Chechen war criminals, and "Zapad",
made of children of WW2 war criminals from the rest of North
Caucasus.
They both probably put in dipper undercover after invasions
in Georgia and crimes against humanity, even more so by
Russian, Cossacks, Bagramyan and other battalions.
RUSSIA USED THEM TO INTIMIDATE AND CONQUER
NON-RUSSIAN NATIONS, TO REPOPULATE BY RUSSIA!
So, the proclaiming of death of such battalions and
oboroten's like Umarov might be quite premature.

3.
They probably all and more so participated in invasion into
Crimea. They probably in smaller groups participating in
invasion into Eastern Ukraine, read how they did it in Georgian
South Ossetia, even before 2008, in interview of Yamadayev
and Timmerman.
Any sane individual knows the secret special forces can
invade under any pretense - volunteers into Spain, tourist on
bicycles from SS into Denmark, GRU children of raped
Ossetin girls all over USSR by Russians, like Boldyrev army
in Kishinev, as Quislings-Separatists to South Ossetia,
volunteers into Ukraine...

If it's true that the Chechens are involved, then Ukraine is as good as gone. Chechens are the world's best soldiers, hands down. The only way to beat them is to outnumber them by margins of 5 to 1 or more, and Ukraine can't do that. I just hope that the Chechens do their job quickly and mercifully...this conflict has escalated too much already.

Chechen fighters are good, I know because we used them extensively in and around Peja in 1998, they scared the hell out of the likes of the Munje and Arkan's boys. It was quite a thrill to see the looks on the faces of the likes of Nebojsa Minic and his crew when they realised they weren't "fighting" innocent civilians in the form of old men, women and children.

Where are all those smart guys from this "forum" who were promising that "Ukraine" was going to become "prosperous" as a result of the coup that took place in Kiev in Februar? And today we see how successful "Ukraine" is: the economy is going to shrink by 5 % this year (according to the IMF), the national territory is desintegrating, people are escaping from the "Ukrainian" "army"...
And in early June Russia will stop gaz supplies to "Ukraine", which will certainly "stabilize the situation yet further". Good job, guys, a very competent one, as is usual for losers like the Beavuses :-))..
