Kyrgyz Journalist Injured After Attack

TEXT SIZE - +
A Kyrgyz journalist was severely beaten and hospitalized this week in Bishkek, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

Nazgul Kushnazarova was attacked by several men and beaten near her house late on February 22. One of her colleagues told RFE/RL today that the attackers did not take her wallet, mobile phone, or other belongings and therefore the attack looks to have been connected with her professional activities.

Kushnazarova has been hospitalized with several injuries. Her colleague said her condition is "satisfactory."

Kushnazarova is employed by the private Almaz radio station and is the anchor of a popular program called "Current Thoughts," which covers the social, economic, and political situation in Kyrgyzstan.
