BISHKEK -- A Kyrgyz parliament deputy has asked the legislative assembly to provide her and her family with security guards after video footage from her personal archive on last summer's ethnic clashes in southern Kyrgyzstan was screened for lawmakers, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.
The footage from Jyldyz Joldosheva, who represents the opposition Ata-Jurt (Fatherland) party, was shown only to legilsators with no journalists present.
The video footage reportedly detailed the chronology of the violence and contained graphic images.
Joldosheva said she is afraid pressure will be exerted on her and members of her family following the screening of the video.
"I fear that my family will face many problems now, and therefore I urge you to provide me and my relatives with security and protection," she said.
More than 400 people were killed and thousands wounded and/or displaced in fighting last June between local ethnic Uzbeks and Kyrgyz in the southern districts of Jalal-Abad and Osh.
