BISHKEK – Kyrgyzstan's Prime Minister Omurbek Babanov has decided to sack all customs officials, border guards and police at the country’s two international airports, in what's being described as a bid to curb corruption.

Under the order, these officials -- at the airport in Bishkek, the capital, and another in the southern city of Osh -- are to be fired within 10 days.

The Kyrgyz government’s press service said Babanov made the decision in an effort to “curb corruption at the airports.”

Babanov announced at a cabinet meeting on February 27 that newly hired replacement personnel at the airports should be fired within one month if corruption in the airports persists.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
