BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan's National Committee for State Security says an alleged member of the banned Hizb ut-Tahrir group has been detained in the northern Issyk-Kul region.

According to an October 29 committee statement, a 21-year-old suspect was sent to a local detention center after police found a large number of leaflets said to be "propagating extremism."

Also on October 29, Kyrgyz Interior Ministry officials told RFE/RL that another young man was detained in the southern district of Nookat over the weekend.

According to the officials, the man is suspected of being a member of an extremist group and had an illegal gun in his possession.
