Kyrgyzstan Bans Unification Church

Religious authorities in a number of post-Soviet states, including Russia, have harshly criticized the Unification Church, whose members are seen here in a mass wedding in Seoul in 2002, calling it a sect.

BISHKEK -- A court in Bishkek has ruled that the South Korean-based Unification Church can no longer operate on Kyrgyz territory.

Earlier this month, the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security, the Kyrgyz Prosecutor-General's Office and the State Directorate for Religious Issues filed a complaint with the court.

In it, the state bodies claimed the church's activities posed a threat to Kyrgyz national security by forcibly propagating nontraditional religious views without proper registration.

The Unification Church became active in the former Soviet Union in the 1990s and has thousands of followers in the region.

Religious authorities in a number of post-Soviet states, including Russia, have harshly criticized the movement, calling it a sect.

Some curbs have been imposed on the Unification Church in those places as a result.

The Unification Church was founded in South Korea in 1954 by Sun Myung-moon, whom followers consider to be a messiah.

If they ban religious movement like this one, who is working actively to prevent religious and ethnical conflicts through dialog and peace education, they are really out of their mind.
They have so much maffia over there... but Unification Church member are honest, hardworking and peaceful. They pay their taxes, have good families, dont drink alcool, their youth don't do drug and free sex, and help voluntirely every the country where they have a community. That's a really sad news for Kyrgyzstan people. They are blind to the truth.

Chile outlawed them and one report stated this:

Chile - June 2004:

The government says Moon’s doctrine "injures the political stability of the democratic system that governs the nation" and promotes conflict among the legislative, executive and judicial branches. ["Chilean gov’t calls Moon sect dangerous to society." [Santiago, Jun 07, 2004 (EFE via COMTEX)]

It's sad, but high-ranking officials and politics are living for the sake of themselves, not for the sake of their nation and their people as they have. We can see this in many countries. So they will ban any person, organization and teaching that is preventing them to live for the sake of themselves sacrificing others.

Sorry to see my comment on how Moon uses his media, such as the Washington Times, was not posted. If you censored it please note -

Just because rferl regularly quotes Moon's primary propaganda outlet is no reason to censor comments that reveal what the WT is really all about. Your readers deserve the whole story about this organization not just the spin that comes from Moon's followers.

They talk about being about "peace": but the primary front group they use for this, the Universal Peace Federation, Moon's son, appointed by his father as the UPF's "International Chairman" says the purpose of the UPF is the same as all Moon fronts - to promote his father as the messiah. To create a world under Moon's vision in his role as the arbiter of God's will. A world under Moon and his follower's thumb. A world where all religions end and everyone follows "True Parents". This is what they want, and everything they do works toward that. You may support that but your readers should have the option.

Just watch this video and see what the WT is about. The speakers are conservative hard line anti-communists. They are all highly credible. In this 1991 video James Whelan, the first editor and publisher of the WT, says that the Moon organization is "subverting our(USA's) political system."

You are not really about promoting Moon's plans for world conquest by censoring comments are you? You have "Freedom" in your name. Please do not censor the truth.

Get the full picture of the Moon organization. Search "japan spiritual sales" and see where much of the money to support the organization originates.

There is great change in a worldview, when you include spiritual world too. If Unification Church has most universal point of view, which is God's, it can not be stopped by any of national or international laws. People forgot to be humble in front of Divine, same true for Kyrgyztan as well to those who commented here. You'll be ruined by the UNIVERSE, if you go against Unification church and Rev. Moon, mark my word.

A litmus test for religious freedom or practice is still a danger to all, including atheists or so-called non-believers. Agendas are not the problem so much as methods used to employ them.

In the case of The Kyrgyz Republic, it has decided that a religion must be comprised of a certain number of adherents in order to exist which, of course, make sense when the majority (86% Muslim) seems to say so.

Unfortunately, as might be observed elsewhere, that bodes ill for any sort of democratic form of debate or difference of opinion.

When freedom of religion is quashed, freedom of expression usually follows.
