Train Kills Migrant In Macedonia In Second Accident In Two Days

A Macedonian train killed a migrant walking on the tracks near the capital, Skopje, in the second railroad accident involving migrants in the country in two days.

The German dpa news agency reported that a 62-year-old Afghan man was struck dead at Ilinden, a Skopje suburb, by a train travelling from the Greek city of Thessaloniki to the Serbian capital, Belgrade.

Fourteen people were killed in a similar accident on the night of April 23, after a train on the same line struck a group of migrants near the central city of Veles, to the south.

Those victims have not been identified, but were thought to be mainly from Afghanistan and Somalia.

Macedonia, the southernmost former Yugoslav republic, is a major gateway to Europe for migrants arriving from Africa and the Middle East.
