Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti has signed a decree nominating Valeriu Strelet of the Liberal-Democratic Party as the country's next prime minister.

Timofti told journalists on July 27 that Strelet has been asked to form a cabinet and present an action plan to parliament within 15 days. However, parliament is expected to consider the new government on July 31.

Strelet's candidacy was agreed by the parties of the ruling Alliance for European Integration and presented to Timofti earlier in the day.

Strelet, 45, is a co-founder and deputy chairman of the Liberal-Democratic Party and has headed its parliamentary faction since September 2014.

The ruling coalition has been trying to agree on a candidate since Chiril Gaburici resigned as prime minister on June 12.
