Mongolia has marked the 850th anniversary of the birth of Genghis Khan.

It's the first time in Mongolia's modern history that the birthday of the Mongol Empire's founder has been celebrated on a national level.

His military conquests became part of the largest contiguous empire in world history after his death in the 13th century.

The Mongolian parliament decided that November 14 will be marked every year as the country's Day of Pride.

Special ceremonies were organized across Mongolia.

Wreaths were laid at the giant Genghis Khan monument near the capital, Ulan Bator.

A number of Mongol celebrities were awarded with Genghis Khan's Order in the presidential residence.
