NATO Says Training Center In Georgia To Open Soon

By RFE/RL

BRUSSELS -- A top NATO official says the alliance and Georgia are working to open a joint training center in Georgia.

NATO Deputy Secretary-General Alexander Vershbow said in an interview with Georgia's Channel One in Brussels broadcast on January 26 that he hopes the center will start operations in Georgia by the end of 2015.

Vershbow added that Georgia has everything it needs to prepare for entrance into NATO.

He said all the mechanisms needed to get Georgia ready to join NATO had been expanded upon at the alliance's Wales summit in September.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry also announced earlier that Vershbow will visit Tbilisi on January 29-30.
