North Korea Envoy Praises 'Landmark' Meeting With Putin

North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un's special envoy says he has had a "landmark" meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Envoy Choe Ryong-Hae, speaking in Moscow on November 20 at the start of talks with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, said he had "a substantial and landmark meeting" with Putin the day before.

Choe said that he passed Putin "a personal message" from Kim and that they discussed economic cooperation and ensuring "stability and peace in the region".

Choe's weeklong Russia trip comes after a UN committee adopted a landmark resolution that recommended referring North Korea to the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity.

Russia and China voted against the non-binding measure on November 18, and Lavrov called it "counterproductive."

Putin said on November 19 that "a further deepening of political ties and trade...is definitely in the interests of the peoples of both" Russia and North Korea.
