At Least Seven Killed By Attacks In Northern Iraq


At least seven people have been killed in northern Iraq by gun attacks and bombings targeting security forces.

General Sarhad Qadir said two police officers were killed and two wounded by an attack on a checkpoint near the city of Kirkuk.

A car bomb also exploded at the main entrance to the city, killing one police officer and wounding six other people.

In Samarra, about 110 kilometers north of Baghdad, militants killed two brothers who were members of the Sunni militia group Sahwa, which is helping the government battle Al-Qaeda fighters in Iraq.

The father of the slain Sahwa militiamen was also killed.

In the town of Hawijah, also north of Baghdad, a Sahwa fighter was killed by a bomb attached to his car.
