The Iraqi government's official deadline for closing Camp Ashraf is set to expire, leaving the future of its remaining residents uncertain.

A United Nations official warned on July 19 that Baghdad's patience is "wearing thin" with the camp's residents, who are exiled opponents of the Iranian regime.

They have refused to leave the site north of Baghdad ahead of the deadline on July 20.

Martin Kobler, UN Special Representative for Iraq, told the Security Council that 1,200 members of the People's Mujahedeen of Iran have stayed at Camp Ashraf despite an agreement that they should move elsewhere.

Iraq's UN Ambassador Hamid al-Bayati has called on European countries and other states to find a home for Camp Ashraf residents to help resolve the situation.

Nearly 2,000 of the camp's inhabitants have already moved to new quarters near Baghdad.

It's a disgusting state of affairs when Mr Kobler does not mention in the slightest the Iraqi regime's non-compliance with its own MOU with the UN! Would he live for one hour under 50 degrees centigrade sizzling heat without air conditioning or running water and electricity let alone a decent sewerage system? Would he want his own family members be denied medical treatment? How would he like it if his every basic human right were denied? I wonder if his visit to the terrorist regime leaders in Iran furnished him with enough sweeties to turn bitter the lives of thousands of defenceless asylum seekers!? Shame on him and shame on any one who sees such injustice and keeps quiet; as the great Iranian poet Sa'di said:

Human beings are members of a whole,
In creation of one essence and soul.
If one member is afflicted with pain,
Other members uneasy will remain.
If you've no sympathy for human pain,
The name of human you cannot retain!
