OSCE, Serbian PM Have 'Constructive' Talks On Media Situation

By RFE/RL's Balkan Service
The OSCE's representative on freedom of the media says she and Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic had a "constructive conversation" concerning the media situation in Serbia.

In a statement issued on June 2, Dunja Mijatovic said Vucic had assured her that "he personally and his government will tackle" issues related to media censorship.

On May 27, Mijatovic criticized the Serbian authorities for "interfering with the work of online media outlets."

Mijatovic said that entire websites in Serbia were removed from the Internet, blogs were censored, and various individuals were arrested or interrogated for allegedly inciting panic during the floods in May.

Vucic sent a letter to the OSCE earlier on June 2 requesting an apology over Mijatovic's comments or evidence proving the existence of such censorship.
