Pakistani Army Says Four Dead In Clashes With Militants

Pakistani military officials say that at least three militants and a soldier have been killed during an exchange of fire in the restive tribal region along the Afghan border.

The gunbattle occurred on September 20 in the Boya area of North Waziristan, one of seven tribal regions where the army is fighting Al-Qaeda-linked militants.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan (TTP), said that one of its senior commanders, Muhammad Hasan, was killed in a recent clash with Pakistani security forces in North Waziristan.

In a statement issued by TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid on September 20, the outlawed group said Hasan, who hailed from Afghanistan, was killed in clashes in North Waziristan's Boya area.

Shahid did not say when exactly Hasan had been killed.

Military officials said more than 1,000 militants and 40 soldiers have been killed since June 15, when a large offensive began.
