Bomb Blast Kills At Least 19 In Pakistan's Northwest

TEXT SIZE - +
Police in Pakistan say a bomb blast has killed at least 19 people in the city of Peshawar, in the country's restive northwest.

The explosion was detonated on June 8 in the Daudzai area, reportedly near a bus carrying government employees.

Officials said at least 20 people were wounded.

A senior police official said there were women and children among the victims.

Television footage showed residents rushing victims to the hospital in private vehicles and, at the site of the blast, the charred remains of a bus.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility.

Peshawar is on the edge of Pakistan's restive tribal region and has seen numerous attacks in the past blamed on Islamic militants who shelter in areas near the border with Afghanistan.
