Deadly Bombing Strikes Quetta, Pakistan

Two separate bomb blasts in busy markets in Pakistan have killed a total of at least six people.

One explosion, in the southwestern city of Quetta, killed at least five people. Police said some 35 others were injured in the blast, which occurred near a police station in a bustling shopping street of the provincial capital of restive Balochistan.

Earlier in the day, another explosion killed at least one person in the eastern city of Lahore. Police said the blast inside a restaurant in a busy market wounded 11 others.

Lahore is the capital of the eastern province of Punjab, which has largely been immune from an Islamist militant insurgency in the northwestern Pashtun regions. Thousands have died in a distinct separatist insurgency in Balochistan by ethnic Baloch rebels.
