The second bomb went off as police and others arrived at the scene.

The wounded included police officers, rescuers, and members of the media.

Jumat-ul-Ahrar, a splinter group of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack.

The area has long been a center of Islamic militancy in Pakistan, and Peshawar itself has seen a number of large-scale militant attacks.
