Heavy monsoon rains in northern Pakistan have worsened flooding there, causing homes to collapse, and killing 24 people, raising the total death toll to 42.
In the city of Chitral, in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, roads, bridges, and crops were badly damaged and more than a quarter of a million people were affected, the EU's humanitarian office said on July 24.
Rescuers found the bodies in the rubble of homes around Chitral on July 24, local police official Abdul Qayyum said on July 25.
At least 20 people have died in Chitral since July 19.
The Pakistani Army was dispatched to the region to rescue those trapped by the flooding.
The flooding killed 12 people in Pakistan’s poorest province, Balochistan.
The latest spell of rain started on July 24 and is likely to continue for the next two days.
Flooding is common during Pakistan's monsoon season, which runs from June to September.
