Police Officer Gunned Down In Russia's Ingushetia

A police officer has been found shot dead in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Ingushetia.

The Russian Investigative Committee's spokesman said on May 13 that the officer's body was found overnight near the village of Gazi-Yurt next to a major highway.

Ingush Interior Ministry officials say the officer worked in a police patrol unit of Ingushetia's Nazran District.

Two bullet shells were found at the scene.

Preliminary leads say two assailants might have been involved into the attack.

Violence is common in Russia's North Caucasus region, which includes Ingushetia, Daghestan, Chechnya, and Kabardino-Balkaria.

Islamic militants and criminal groups routinely target Russian military personnel and local officials.
