A prominent Belarusian folk singer has been found dead in his apartment in Minsk.
Friends and colleagues of Zmitser Sidarovich said on May 19 that he had not responded to telephone calls for two days. His relatives found him dead after he failed to appear for one of his own concerts.
Police are investigating his death.
Sidarovich, 48, was a poet, musician, and folk singer who is credited with contributing to the preservation of the Belarusian language and culture.
He established a popular folklore musical group, Kamelot, in 1991, issued a book of popular poems, and wrote an almanac titled "The Greatest Musicians of the 20th Century."
Sidarovich was also a frequent guest on cultural programs of RFE/RL's Belarus Service.
