A documentary film about the Russian feminist performance-art collective Pussy Riot has won a Special Jury Prize at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in the United States.

The prize for a documentary in the world-cinema category was announced on January 26.

The directors of "Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer" used the opportunity to urge international support for the two members of Pussy Riot who are serving two-year sentences in a Russian prison on convictions of hooliganism motivated by religious hatred.

Another Special Jury Prize, for foreign drama, was awarded to "Circles," by Serbian filmmaker Srdan Golubovic.

The Sundance festival, founded by American actor and director Robert Redford, presented 119 films from 32 countries.

It ends on January 27.
