The Moscow City Court has prolonged until February 6 the pretrial detention of an opposition activist.

Leonid Razvozzhayev, along with the coordinator of the opposition Left Front movement, Sergei Udaltsov, was charged with the preparation and organization of the mass antigovernment unrest on Moscow's Bolotnaya Square in May 2012.

Moscow's Basman District Court had initially prolonged Razvozzhayev's pretrial detention until October 21, saying any further extension could only be decided by the Moscow City Court, as that date would mark one year since his arrest.

Razvozzhayev has said Russian authorities abducted him from Ukraine in October, brought him back to Russia, and used torture to force him to confess.

Russian investigators say the Bolotnaya protest was orchestrated by a Georgian politician.

Razvozzhayev denies the charge.

Udaltsov is under house arrest.

Two participants in the Bolotnaya protest have pleaded guilty and made a deal with investigators.

The trial of 12 other participants is under way.

Based on reporting by ITAR-TASS and Interfax
