A leaked cable suggests Israel’s spy agency did not share Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's view in 2012 that Iran was months away from producing enough weapons-grade uranium for making a nuclear bomb.
In September 2012, Netanyahu told the UN General Assembly that Iran was one year away from making a nuclear weapon.
But a Mossad report dated October 2012 said Iran was "not performing the activity necessary to produce weapons."
The report, shared with South Africa, said Iran had accumulated some lower-grade enriched uranium, but "it does not appear to be ready to enrich it to higher levels" that would be required for a nuclear weapon.
The document is part of leaked documents published on February 23 by The Guardian and Al-Jazeera. They mainly involve exchanges between South Africa's intelligence agency and its foreign counterparts.
