A Russian court has jailed a young Russian woman for twerking near a World War II memorial and fined the parents of three minor females who also performed the sexually suggestive dance.
The court in the city of Pochep, in Russia’s western Bryansk region, found the 21-year-old woman guilty of public disturbance and placed her under arrest for 10 days after a video showing her twerking near the memorial was posted on YouTube last week.
In the video, the woman and the three minors perform the dance at several sites throughout the city of Pochep.
Regional prosecutors said on September 17 that the parents of the three minors were fined for "failing to perform parental duties for raising minors."
So far this year, at least nine females -- some of age and some under 18 -- have incurred jail time or fines for twerking near World War II memorials in Russia.
Russian officials take great pride about the Soviet role in the Nazi defeat and bristle at anything that, in their eyes, besmirches what is seen as a sacred memory.
