A Moscow judge has dismissed the jury in the trial of five men suspected of involvement in the murder of Russian investigative reporter and human rights campaigner Anna Politkovskaya.

The decision by a Moscow City Court judge was made after three jurors did not show up in the courtroom on November 14.

The jury's dismissal marked another setback in the controversial process that has so far only led to one conviction in the Politkovskaya case.

Last week, a prosecutor announced that a jury member had been previously convicted of murder.

Also last week, Russia's Investigative Committee revealed that two criminal cases have been launched against the defendants' lawyer, Murad Musayev, who is officially suspected of obstructing justice and attempting to bribe witnesses in an unrelated case.

Politkovskaya was gunned down in 2006 in her apartment block in Moscow.
